2025 San Marino Concours

This year Alex was invited to judge the 2025 San Marino Concours in Los Angeles, California.

At this large concours event, with over 300 cars and around 100 judges, all sorts of vehicles could be found.

However, what stood out the most were the stories behind some of the owners.

How about the Jaguar D type which raced in California was hand painted by Von Dutch in period and the owner is writing a book about it now.

One striking example was an old Dodge police car with a 7.7-litre V8 and a shotgun mounted inside! Standing next to it was the owner, wearing a “Pasadena Police Investigator” shirt. Upon asking, he revealed he was a retired detective who had actually driven this car in service, and even pointed out a few bullet holes still visible on the bodywork.

Then there was a Ferrari 308 GTS bearing the famous “ROBIN” license plate from Magnum P.I. (for those in the know), showing an incredible 249,000 miles (around 400,000 km) from new and now in near showroom condition. The proud owner revealed he has two more Ferraris, each with over 200,000 miles on the clock. That must be close to a record, maybe for Ferrari North America time to award this man a special trophy! At least he won his class, thanks to the exceptional condition of his car.

Last but not least was Sam, the owner of a rare Dino 308 GT4. Not only was he wearing a Bertone shirt and using a Dino-branded floor mat, but his car also featured a rare specification, making it a standout.

In the scorching heat Best of Show (Postwar) went to the stunning Chrysler Dual-Ghia, a beautiful car that had also won its class at Pebble Beach the week before!
